SILT AND STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

Stormwater runoff from Valley View Road and Hargraves Street has impacted Valley View Swamp causing erosion, channeling and siltation. Channeling drains a swamp and modifies the local environment causing the swamp to dry out. Siltation smothers the swamp and allows the infiltration of weed seeds.

To address these problems BMCC undertook significant soft engineering works to capture silt and slow stormwater runoff. This has included the creation of a siltation pond, a rock-lined channel and siltation barriers to prevent silt reaching more pristine areas of the swamp.
